You Have Not Because You Ask Not

Youhavenot

“Ye have not, because ye ask not.” James 4:2

“And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, What ever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.”
“Before, you asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” John 16:23-24

That first scripture was hanging me up. It says that we have not because we ask not. Well, I was asking but not receiving so I began to do a study on that scripture. I wanted to know what I was missing.

As you can see there are other scriptures that say the same thing.

Through study, and hearing the voice of God, I believe there are real reasons our prayers often go unanswered.

First we often ask with bad motives. Bad motives, I believe, are when we ask out of selfish reasons. We want something, perhaps, so that we can brag about it to our friends and delight in seeing their jealousy. That’s a wrong reason.

Another reason our prayers are not answered, at times, is that we ask for something that is not good for us and will led us into sin. For example, we cannot ask the Lord to bring us someone else’s husband and expect that He will do that. It violates His law on marriage.

However, the main reason most of our prayers go unanswered is that we have limiting beliefs. We may not believe that we are good enough, smart enough, or talented enough for what we are asking God for. Those limiting beliefs do not line up with God’s thoughts and so those prayers go unanswered.

Let’s start by understanding that we are God’s beloved children.

As children of God, he thinks we are special. He made us and like any other artist he is proud of his work.

I like to use the example of the way we love our own children. We think they are special. We think they are almost perfect. When we do recognize their faults, we still believe that they have the ability to change into the best version of themselves. We don’t give up that belief. We don’t like it much when, even though they are trying to help, other people talk badly about our children.

When we understand our relationship with Daddy God it helps us to understand, even more, His love and care for us.

So now we have to look at the words that come out of our mouths and the thoughts that come into our minds. Do they line up with God’s thoughts about us?

Let’s use the example of a man who is not what we would generally think of as handsome. We may not understand it but often we see him dating beautiful women. We know, for example, he is not rich. So how does he always date beautiful women?

The answer is that his thoughts, of himself, are not negative. He doesn’t think, “I am not that great looking, that woman will never go out with me!” Instead he thinks he looks great. He has that self-confidence that people are drawn to and therefore his thinking about dating beautiful women is not limited. He believes the sky is the limit and, because God thinks he is special too, he asks and he receives.

That is an example of our thoughts aligning with the thoughts of God.

Now, lets take this into the area of finances. We may be praying for God to bless us financially while at the same time thinking, “I am not going to make it. I can’t seem to dig myself out of this hole.” Or we might think, “I would start my own business but I don’t know how to make my own website or talk to people.”

Those are examples of limiting thoughts that do not line up with the word of God. To change things we need to start believing that we are as smart as the next person. We can believe that with God’s help we can figure out how to make a website. We can go online and do a Google search, on “How to make a website.”

God says, “Beloved I wish above all else that you would prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.”

In order to get answers to our prayers we have to get rid of limiting beliefs about our abilities. We pray and we believe that we can do anything and we believe that with God’s help NOTHING is impossible. We then step out towards our dreams believing that God is partnering with us to answer our prayers.

Romans 10:17 says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

In order to build up our faith we have to soak ourselves in God’s word. We turn to Christian Radio in our cars; we spend time each day in the bible, we listening to Christian CD’s or sermons for free on You Tube. All these things will increase our faith.

Music is a trigger. It often puts our mind into believing the wrong things about the world and acceptable behavior. There is nothing wrong with secular music but we need to equal time listening to positive things too. If not we can find ourselves becoming really jaded.

I believe, as we start to align our minds with Christ, we can ask and we can receive, abundantly, those things that our hearts desire.

Align Your Mind With The Mind Of God

Thoughts

Psalm 34:17-18 the righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Our moods can change really quickly. One minute everything is great and the next minute we our in a bad mood and obsessing over one problem or the other.

I recently had an incident in my life that I could not seem to break free of obsessing over. To me it is an emotionally painful situation and it never seems to get better no matter how much I pray. Believe me I have prayed until I am blue in the face and the situation doesn’t get better. I was praying in the spirit this week when God began to download to my mind a teaching for others and myself about the danger of obsessing over problems and how doing that makes things worse.

God began to show me what happens in the spirit world when we focus on one problem obsessively. Without knowing it the problem gets bigger and we actually attract more problems by constantly praying in a negative way about our problems. We have all been there. We start to tell the Lord about what is going on, from our perspective, and we begin to tell him how awful the situation is and that we “just do not know what we are going to do about it.” We go on from there with one negative confession after the other. In the Kingdom of God, one of the Kingdom principals is, “What we say is what we get.”

God begin to speak to my heart and said the following, “If this situation was completely rectified and everything concerning it was perfect, how would you feel?” I thought about how I would feel without the problem. I determined I would feel happy, peaceful and secure. God then said, “I want you to imagine yourself feeling like that every time you think about it and then pray to me with gratitude that you feel happy, peaceful and secure. Do not mention the problem, I already know your problems. Just thank Me as if everything was exactly as you want it to be. That puts your mind and my mind as ONE. I want only GOOD things for you always, you already have those things it’s simply the enemy of your soul who wants you fretting over things that you, already, have every right, as MY daughter, to have. Every time you start to obsess over things just STOP and go to that peaceful place in your mind where you feel happy, peaceful and secure. Before you know that it will become habit, and things will line up to bring answers to your problems that make you feel happy, peaceful and secure. You must align your thoughts with MINE and not those of Satan!”

You see, God has a purpose for each life. He never gives up on that purpose, and as we keep our mind on the positive attributes of God’s Kingdom, and His will for our lives, we shift the negative focus to one that is positive and the heavenly realms respond to it and bring back positive things in our lives.

The same thing can be said about our finances and what we see as a lack of money. We look at what we see around us and we panic. We say things like, “The economy is bad, the world is in a bad state financially and I do not know what to do!” Our minds do not know the difference. If we say those things then those things come to pass. Instead we can shift that by feeling the same feelings we would feel if we had enough money to pay our bills on time, do some things we want to do and bless others. We then start to praise God for the things we do have. God operates in an attitude of gratitude. So many times we hear people say, “Get real, tell it like it is!” Telling it “like it is” will keep things like they are, in our lives, forever.

The Word of God says, in 3 John 2;  Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.”

What story are you telling everyone today? Are you full of self-pity and worry? Do you repeat that over and over every time you speak to someone? Doing that sets us up for failure. Instead write a new story for yourself. Set goals and see yourself as a person that has the power, with the help of God, to tear up the bad chapter in your story and write one in which you are happy, healthy and prosperous.

Focus on your God given purpose in life. Do not focus on the problems.
