Doing Combat With The Devil

The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” Luke 10:17

We have been living in a different home now for over a month. I believe it was a miracle, a parting of the Red Sea if you will, that brought us to this place of peace and serenity.

I never said much about this to anyone but with certainty I can tell you now that I fought with a presence of evil in the other house for four and a half years.

We have to be so careful, as Christians, when we are presented with something that appears to be everything we have ever wanted. Sometimes it is, indeed, a gift from our Heavenly Father. Other times our flesh with its feelings of lust or greed deludes us into thinking that something or someone is a gift from God. I learned the hard way that when we go against our God given discernment we often get moved into a situation that Satan wants to use to try and destroy us and/or our peace of mind.

Looking back on my life I now know that a lot of my hard circumstances came from me jumping into something without praying about it enough or, before I totally surrendered my life to Christ, not praying about it at all.

Within a day of signing a lease for that house I had a dream of white snakes slithering all over rooms in that house. I do interpretation of dreams; it’s one of my gifts from God. I realized that God was using that to warn me that something, or someone, was not as I thought it was. The white snakes represented evil masquerading as good.

I brought that up to my husband, Chuck, because in this state you have three days to get out of a contract. Chuck, who was being lured by the fact he had always wanted to be an artist in Taos, NM, pooh-poohed it and attributed the dream to something I had eaten the night before. In full disclosure as time went on my husband apologized many times for not listening to that dream.

We moved to that house from Colorado and we were not even living there for 24 full hours before an event happened to prove to me that my discernment was right. For libel reasons I cannot go into some of the things that happened to us in that house.

I wanted out of that house. Every single time I thought we would get out of there something stopped us from moving. We had an attorney who told us that our landlord had broken the lease and we could move without any legal problems, but we had no money to move with. My husband’s terrible health situation evidentially drained us of any and all savings we had.

While in that house we both became physically ill and depressed. The IRS went after us, our small businesses dried up financially and worst of all there was demonic demonstrations of evil in that house. I felt a chill more then once as something walked right in front of me. I took a couple of photos that freaked us out when we looked at them. Standing behind me was something so bizarre looking and ugly, that it had to be a demon.

The strange thing is that I begin to sense that God was showing me to not be afraid of the evil I felt there. He began to minister to me that we have power over ever demon in hell. In this scripture in Luke 10:19 we read the following: Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.”

God literally spoke to me at one time the following; “What you are seeing is a demon of death.” I was learning literal hand-to-hand daily combat with the evil one. If you are not a born again Christian and you are reading this you are probably thinking I was having a psychotic episode. If you are a Christian you know that we fight daily against “powers and principalities.”

That scripture became real to me and for the first time ever I literally knew, that I knew, that was true. The demon followed me around but was never allowed to touch a hair on my head!

I later learned that someone who had lived there before us had experienced 9 miscarriages. Make of that what you will. They were not the original owners and I was never able to find out much about the people who lived there before they did.

I cried out to the Lord on a daily basis for a way forward and out of that house. God had lessons for me to learn there and it appeared that until those particular lessons were learned nothing moved forward for us and we felt stuck!

Some of you are in similar situations today as you read this. You are not where you want to be but for one reason or another you feel as if nothing will move you away from the situation and you feel stuck!

I want to encourage you to hold on and look for lessons you need to learn in your situation. God is with you and you are His precious child. He wants for you the same good things that you desire for yourself. This situation you are currently in WILL NOT LAST FOREVER. Have you ever seen or been in a weather storm that lasts forever? No, you have not. This current storm you are in is temporary. It will come to an end and you are going to move forward to the next step in your journey with God.

One day, in May of this year, I was sitting in my prayer chair when an overwhelming sense of peace and joy came over me. I knew, that I knew that I was being released from the particular school God had been using to teach me some much needed lessons and that He was sending me to another phase of my journey.

Within a short time one thing led to the other and we were moved out of that place and into another. We did so still with a lack of money. It was nothing short of miraculous.

This time we prayed together that God would give us signs we were on the right path and doing the right thing. He did so and we moved forward and ALL the doors opened before us in supernatural ways.

We prayed through the whole negotiation process that God would stop the situation immediately if it was not His will. Both of us had learned enough about the consequences of being led by our wants and this time we wanted God to place us where HE wanted us.

I learned through that situation the importance of remaining happy and living in the moment. I learned that I couldn’t say anymore that, “I will be happy when this or that happens.” We have to be happy where we are before God will move us on.

That means that even when we are in the worst of situations we still have to praise His Name. We say daily, “God, I do not understand this but I know that I am your child and you have me right where you need me for this time and I will quit fussing and believe that you will work all things out for my good.”

It’s called acceptance of those things we cannot change.

I learned that just because we are not where we want to be God can still bless us daily. I learned to find joy in the little things.

I learned that God still works miracles. He did so for my husband and me and He can do it for you. Learn to praise Him in the hard times as well as the good times. Praise causes God to arrive on the scene and peace will abound even in the hardest of times.

I learned that I am stronger then I realized, through Christ, and I was withstanding many things that might have taken anyone out who didn’t have God with them. My husband almost died, the IRS fraudulently took money from our accounts, and the devil was personally harassing me daily. Still I survive to tell you that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

Don’t take delays as if God is saying “NO” to you. God is working it all out for your good. When your situation changes it will do so in a way that everyone around you will be astounded and GOD will get the glory!

Keep giving and praising Him as if everything in your life was perfect and soon you will walk into His supernatural blessings. Complaining closes doors, gratitude and praising opens them!

In His Unconditional Love,

  1. Cathey,
I just wanted to thank you for the beautiful uplifting post. It is so good to see things through a fellow christians eyes. It really goes to show, we as christians really are set apart through christ. Your post gave me some extra much needed hope, & I can clearly see how Christ our loving Savior is working through you. I have been going through a very very long waiting period in praying for God to restore my family & to bring peace & unity in marriage. My promised husband & bestfriend of many years is going through a midlife crisis & just up & left one dayday, no explanation, no reason, just nothing. Talk about heartache & devastation & still having to keep it together witout it showing for the sake of your children. We have 4 children between the 2 of us & they have been ripped apart as well due to steve leaving. I have prayed on this for almost 2 years. God has spoke to me & promised that Steve will come back home an entirely new & repentant man. For the 1st time in my entire life God has asked me to be still & wait & to trust him. I just wasnt prepared to wsit as li g as I have. I know God is faithful & true to his word which is how I have managed to continue to pray vigilantly through this enormous trial. Praise Jesus for his strength! What you said is so true, praising our heavenly father through the worst storms in our lives may not stop the storm, but it certainly helps you get through them & as you said ” no storm last forever”. Thank you again for your beautiful words of encouragement & for sharing your story. I know God led me to read it for a good purpose.

    May God Bless you abundantly
